Public Workshop #1 held for the Dyess AFB Joint Land Use Study
The City of Abilene hosted the first Public Workshop for the Dyess Air Force Base (AFB) Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) on Monday, October 3, 2016.
A Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) is a cooperative planning effort conducted as a joint venture between an active military installation, surrounding jurisdictions, state and federal agencies, and other affected stakeholders to address compatibility around military installations. The focus of the workshop was to provide an overview of the JLUS and JLUS process, the importance of a JLUS, and overview of the compatibility factors that will be assessed through the JLUS planning study. Attendees had the opportunity to provide input on the compatibility issues they would like to see addressed in the JLUS. In addition, the workshop included an overview of the Dyess AFB mission to better understand the military missions and the associated impacts in the project study area.
In order to develop a study and recommendations that are responsive to local needs, input from the community is essential. The public was encouraged to join us at this workshop.
